About the Green Business Plan

Background  •  How the Program Works  •  Why Go Green?  •  Contact Us

In the summer of 2007, the Watauga Economic Development Commission initiated the Watauga Green Business Plan as a first step in distinguishing Watauga County as a place that encourages and cultivates sustainable enterprises. The purpose of the program is to give entrepreneurs the tools they need to adopt practices that reduce their environmental impact, improve their operational efficiency, and enhance their business reputation.

The goals and structure of the program were developed through a collaborative process involving representatives from small business, the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce, the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce, and technical experts, and facilitated by the Appalachian State University Energy Center
